Greetings, I'm a long time enthusiast of aviation, my dream profession was to be a Jet Pilot, but my family never took it seriously and never sent me to the Air Force Academy.
Regardless, I'm an afficionado of aviation, i grew up in Terceira, Azores, for you guys to indentify it quickly the airport code is LPLA, i've seen more military jets that i can count. I have a family member who is also as sick as me and is part of the online community, i decided to finally join, after years of him asking me to do so. So, i got a couple of questions:. Keyboard or Joystick or both!?. FS X Steam Edition, can i use it for the online full experience? Or it requires a different build separate from Steam? Keyboard or joystick or both Both.
You definitely want a joystick/yoke; it's simply not the same without. FSX Steam Edition will allow you to play online the best. However, it has only recently been released, and there are quite a few addons which it does not support and will not work on it - though in saying that, quite a few do. It's a bit hit or miss whether standalone fsx addons will work with steam edition at the moment.
Would totally recommend steam edition for the multiplayer though:). For VATSIM you need to register on their website and go through their procedure: Then I would just recommend you to read the get started guide, it's quite good: For the software I use FSinn from this page.
There is a trick to installing it for the steam version (from another one of my posts): after the installation you have manually copy the content of steam/steamApps/commons/FS to steam/steamApps/commons/FSX, but other than that it works pretty good, and it's not as hard as it looks to configure it. Also, you need to install Simconnect (Steam SteamApps common FSX SDK Core Utilities Kit SimConnect SDK LegacyInterfaces I installed the three). As for the configuration of FSInn: Then i would point you to this post of mine about how I started on VATSIM: Hope I make sense.
Vatsim Servers Online
Interesting question. No, VATSIM currently does not require any pilot training for its members to connect to and use the network. In the future however, a member could be required to undergo pilot training if they demonstrate a repeated lack of ability (or will) to follow ATC instructions or 'interfere' with other's enjoyment of the network. My understanding is they would be given the option of completing the P1 rating (ie how to use VATSIM) within some fairly generous period of time or face expulsion from the network. You can read more about it here: Hope that helps. Interesting question. No, VATSIM currently does not require any pilot training for its members to connect to and use the network.
